Rajalakshmi Engineering College celebrated International Women’s Day, a day earlier, on March 7, 2014. An elite group of women, all achievers in their respective fields, addressed a large gathering of enthusiastic faculty members and students and shared their knowledge and experience.
The programme started with an Invocation by the REC choir and was followed by an audio visual presentation on a number of Women Achievers throughout the ages. Dr. Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Institutions, presided over the function and spoke at length and stressed the need for women empowerment and pointed out the abundant opportunities now available for women to serve and contribute to the welfare of the society.
Dr. Geetha Haripriya, Chairperson, Prashanth Multispecialty Hospital, said that humanness in dealing with patients is an essential attribute for those in the medical profession and elaborated on the recent developments in the field of reproductive medicine and neonatology. Mrs. Jeyasree Ravi, Proprietor, Sri Palam Silk Sarees was of the firm belief that everyone has certain unique potential and that should be fully exploited for doing well in life. Following one’s own passion is more important than being intimidated by the achievements of other people. Mrs. Sheela Rajendra, Director and correspondent , PSBB group of schools, briefed the audience on how various women achievers in the past had worked fearlessly with a determination to realize their goals in serving the society.
Mrs. Madhumathi Thirunavukkarasu of HR JBM group, who spoke next, insisted that career should be chosen based on passion rather than for a fashionable life and attractive emoluments. She also warned the receptive audience on the dangers of judging colleagues by first impressions alone in the work place. Mrs. K. Sumathi, the acclaimed lawyer and well known speaker directed the women gathered to respect their parents and to understand and appreciate the sacrifices they have made. She also articulated, with apt analogies, the importance of focusing on studies while at college and staying away from unproductive distractions.
Earlier Dr. Johanna Rajkumar, welcomed the women achievers and Dr.Prasanna Kumari proposed the vote of thanks.
