Natyakalashikamani award for Vyjayanthimala

It is awards galore for ace Bharatanatyam dancer Vyjayanthimala Bali. Close on the heels of Natya Padhmam from Brahma Gana Sabha, she was honoured with the Indian Fine Arts Society’s Natyakalashikamani award.

This was in recognition of the services of Vyjayanthimala, a torch-bearer of the Vazhuvoor bani, in the field of arts.

Praising her as a dancer and an actress, veteran singer P B Srinivas paid encomiums on her for her versatility. Her adroit footwork and remarkable choreography made her presence felt in all domains, remarked PBS who read out poems he had penned on her in many languages.

Thanking everyone in her acceptance speech, Vyjayanthimala traced her journey and her association with A V Meyappa Chettiar who made ‘Vazhkai’ featuring her as a heroine which was a box office hit. She said dancing was her passion that would live all through her life.

Apollo Hospitals managing director Preetha Reddy conferred the title Natyakalashikamani on Vyjayanthimala. Society president V Sethuraman was present.
